BRIGHT FUTURES ARE USING NEW TECHNOLOGY TO HELP STUDENTS MAKE FEWER BUT MORE RELEVANT APPLICATIONS.

The Bright Futures Society launched some great new technology with our software partner gradintel.com this summer: ‘Bright Futures Profiles’. Essentially, we are providing opportunities for all our Bright Futures Society members to get headhunted online by employers for internships, placements and graduate roles. By creating an online profile covering academic achievements, skills gained through work, psychometrics and career interests our students will not only be approached directly by employers whose profile they fit, but also where they have a strong chance of passing various stages of the application process.

Why have we done this? From our experience of speaking with undergraduates across the UK, students face two big questions when job hunting: ‘who shall I apply to?’ and ‘who am I right for?’ The Bright Futures Society’s new software provides easy solutions to these challenges.

Students today are increasingly time-poor, yet too many of the current services available to them demand more and more of their time. For example, job boards provide huge volumes of employer listings plus masses of emails that many students end up deleting as it is too overwhelming. And if that is not enough, students then spend lots of their precious time filling in online application forms only to fail at the first hurdle.

What is needed is a way for students to deal with fewer and more relevant opportunities. By creating a personal ‘Bright Futures Profile’, online the companies – who contact students via email or text – will ask them to apply as they know the individual already meets most of the key criteria. As an added bonus for Bright Futures students the software will create CVs and give them the chance to practice psychometric tests.

Why is this software important for the society? The Bright Futures Society is about helping our student members get the right jobs. By being actively involved in the Bright Futures Society, students can learn about a wide variety of careers through on-campus events and, as a result, make more informed decisions about different careers and industries as well as develop the necessary skills.

This new software will now bring each of our students into contact with the right employers whether the student knew about that organisation before or not. That is good for students and good for the organisations we work with – everybody wins!
